My family moved from Kerala in south west India to Malaysia just over 50 years ago. My mother took, along with her new husband and son, the recipes she had learnt from her Mother and Grandmother. Whilst living as An Indian in Exile in her new country, she learnt to adapt these recipes to suit the local ingredients and our families tastes, collected new recipes and discovered new ways of serving her old favourites. She has written down her recipes and passed on this knowledge to the rest of our family and myself. The book, entitled An Indian in Exile, is a tribute from the family to our Mother, Mrs. Kunjamma Mathew and our way of thanking her. The An Indian in Exile web site is your chance to sample some of the delicious recipes contained in An Indian in Exile and to give you a taste of Malaysia and Kerala.

The book project - "An Indian in Exile" started out as a thank you to my Mother, Mrs. Kunjamma Mathews, from my family and I. Thank you for the care she took with our upbringing and for the delicious food she prepared for us at home in Malaysia from the 1950's onwards. Once the book was complete however there was an increased interest and we started to sell via the site, via Amazon.co.uk, and through various book shops. We have had reviews in the UK press and orders have come in from Canada and North America, Australia and New Zealand, China, India, and many parts of Europe; in fact, almost everywhere. Things then seemed to build under their own steam. We started offering silks which we found on our trips to Malaysia and now, in response to several e mail requests we are setting up a Travel Page, in conjunction with three of the best and most respected travel companies who can provide everything you could need for your trip to Malaysia or, in fact, anywhere in the World !
